What changed
ARIN's notice reports two distinct counts for the 7 October run:
- 483 requests fulfilled for organisations on the waiting list
- 577 blocks listed in the distribution pool
Those two numbers measure different units - requests versus listed address blocks - so 577 should not be read as 577 separate allocations, and the two figures cannot be subtracted to estimate remaining queue length. ARIN states that the next waiting-list distribution will take place in late Q4 2026.
Why it matters for BYOIP teams
Waiting-list distributions remain one of the few non-market paths to obtain IPv4 space directly from ARIN, alongside transfers and leasing covered in our IPv4 exhaustion guide. Because distributed blocks come from space returned or revoked to the registry, a newly issued block can still carry prior routing or blocklist history.
Teams planning to onboard a newly issued ARIN block into a cloud BYOIP service should treat registry issuance as the starting point for operational readiness rather than proof that the range is clean everywhere.
What to check
- Check prior BGP announcements and stale RPKI or IRR objects before advertising a newly distributed prefix.
- Run IP address reputation checks early enough to resolve any legacy listings before production cutover.
- Consult ARIN's current waiting-list policy documentation directly if assessing eligibility or transfer restrictions for waiting-list space.
